SEE YA, Mr. SHARP/WKU’s Jamarion Sharp, a shot-blocking specialist, has entered the NCAA transfer portal

SEVERAL KEY PLAYERS FROM 2022-23 TOPS ARE EXPECTED TO DEPART

Western Kentucky’s shot-blocking specialist, 7-foot-5 senior Jamarion Sharp, has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, the school announced Tuesday.

Sharp, who has an extra year of eligibility because of the abbreviated COVID-19 season (2019-20), also entered the portal last year — along with the team’s leading scorer and playmaker, Dayvion McKnight — before deciding to return to the Hilltoppers.

The apparent exodus since the arrival of newly hired WKU head coach Steve Lutz has been interesting.

Backup guard Jordan Rawls entered the portal before Lutz was even hired two weekends ago, and McKnight, as expected, followed suit.

Sharp, a defensive specialist from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, led the nation in blocked shots for the second consecutive season. He also named Conference USA’s Defensive Player of the Year, in each of the last two seasons, starting all 32 games for Rick Stansbury’s final WKU squad.

Sharp tallied 131 blocked shots while averaging 7.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Lutz said he anticipated some NCAA Transfer Portal activity after being named the 16th head coach in school history earlier this month.
