BOWLING GREEN BOWS OUT WITH LOSS TO ATHERTON; PADUCAH TILGHMAN ELIMINATES LOGAN COUNTY, 48-27
Bowling Green High School’s comeback trail ended at Louisville’s Waggener High School on Friday night in the KHSAA Class 5A quarterfinals.
Atherton knocked off the Purples, 49-21, to advance to the KHSAA Class 5A semifinals. Bowling Green finished its season at 6-7 overall, but the Purples played perhaps the toughest non-district schedule in the state.
Logan County High School opened a substantial lead against its recent nemesis, defending KHSAA Class 4A Paducah Tilghman, but the Blue Tornado caught fire in rolling past the Cougars, 47-26, on Friday night at Paducah’s McRight Stadium.
But there was one survivor from South Central Kentucky as the KHSAA winnowed its field of contenders to 24 teams, come Thanksgiving weekend. Unbeaten South Warren High School, in its first season as a KHSAA Class 6A squad, took care of business on its home turf on Friday night. The Spartans (13-0 overall) steamrolled visiting Henderson County High School, 49-21, to advance to the Class 6A semifinals.
South Warren will play host to Ryle High School on Friday night, with the winner to advance to the KHSAA Championship Weekend starting December 5 at the University of Kentucky’s Kroger FIeld in Lexington.

FIGURES TO BOUNCE BACK
WITH A VENGEANCE IN 2026.

The Spartans used the steady play of their two underclassmen quarterbacks, junior starter Camden Page and sophomore backup Chase Bell, to derail Henderson County’s upset hopes on Friday night.
South Warren passed sparingly, against the Colonels, but Page and Bell made it work.
The 6-foot-4 Page completed 11 of 13 passes for 165 yards and a second-quarter score, a 39-yard touchdown pass to junior wideout Justin Capps. It was Capps’ seventh TD reception of the season.
South Warren’s Jake Carter, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound senior wideout, also was used in the Wildcat formation for the second straight week. Carter opened the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

AND THE SPARTANS WILL PLAY HOST
TO RYLE HIGH SCHOOL ON FRIDAY NIGHT.

OF UNDERCLASSMEN QUARTERBACKS,
CAMDEN PAGE (LEFT) AND CHASE BELL.
Senior tailback Kayden York led the Spartans with 102 yards rushing, while sophomore Jamir Boards added 60. Chase Bell completed five of six passes for 71 yards, including a 44-yard TD pass to Carter in the opening moments of the fourth quarter.
I’ll have extensive coverage of South Warren’s semifinal game against Ryle High School this week at jimmashek.com, along with Western Kentucky football’s big game against Conference USA rival Jacksonville State on Saturday afternoon. The Hilltoppers gave a good account of themselves on Saturday night at LSU’s Tiger Stadium, but dropped a 13-10 decision to the Tigers.
WKU (8-3, 6-1 in Conference USA) will be on the road to face Jacksonville State (Alabama) on Saturday in Jacksonville, Alabama. Should the HIlltoppers win that game, they’ll play host to the C-USA Championship Game on December 12 at Houchens-Smith Stadium.
