QUICK HITTER ADVISORY/Braylon Banks’ 3-pointer in final seconds lifts Purples to dramatic 61-59 victory over Warren Central

DRAW FOR KHSAA’s 4th REGION TOURNAMENT IS IN 30 MINUTES

Hey, y’all it’s been an interesting week.

Started with my hot water heater exploding in the dead of night, at 2 in the morning. It made a whistling noise like the contraption next to the old hotel in the immortal “My Cousin Vinny,” back in the day.

Anyway, I’ve been, uh, treadin’ water ever since.

We had the KHSAA’s 14th District Tournament at Bowling Green High School, and it was a Purple Parade, to be sure.

On Thursday night, the Lady Purples claimed their seventh consecutive 14th District title with a resourceful 43-30 victory over South Warren. Both squads advanced to the 4th Region tourney, starting on Sunday afternoon at WKU’s E.A. Diddle Arena.

The draw for the boys’ tournament, which is staggered, because of Rupp Arena being used for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament later this month, will be in about 30 minutes at Warren East High School.

I’m on my way.

But yes, I’ll be writing about Braylon Banks’ amazing 3-pointer with just three seconds left, the shot that lifted the Purples past crosstown rival Warren Central, 61-59, on Friday night at the BGHS Arena. Like the girls’ teams, both Bowling Green and Warren Central will advance to the 4th Region Tournament.

They’ll find out who they play in a matter of minutes.

Warren Central has reached the KHSAA state tournament four times in the last five years, with a runner-up finish in 2022, and the amazing 2022-23 team that lost just ONE GAME while storming to the state championship the following season. Several of those WCHS players have moved on to college basketball.

It would be remiss if I failed to say that I love high school sports. The coaches work with you, the kids like talking to you, it’s something I can relate to, having competed in football, wrestling and baseball in my high school days, shortly after Edison discovered electricity.

It’ll be an electric atmosphere for the next couple weeks at Diddle Arena. The Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers are finishing strong seasons, and now the teenagers are on their way to play some ball.

Let’s do this. I’ll have complete coverage on the game later today. Thanks.

Peace out, homeslice. 3/1/2025
